Following the unification of Germany in 1990/1991, the Zeiss factory in Saalfeld was closed. A highly qualified team was on the lookout for new work in the field of medical technology.

BLANCO stepped forward as a partner. In October 1991, BLANCO MED GmbH was founded as a 100% subsidiary of BLANCO GmbH & Co KG, located in Oberderdingen (Baden-Württemberg) and the staff of the former Zeiss factory was taken on.

In the first business year, 115 employees were involved in the manufacture of products engineered  by BLANCO.

The main products were an operating table developed by BLANCO, the BMT 300 and OR equipment.

Since 1995 the company has been working on contract to SIEMENS to develop patient positioning devices for magnetic resonance imaging systems.

These devices and their successors are still being developed and produced for SIEMENS in Saalfeld.

An important milestone was the presentation of the JUPITER operating table system at MEDICA 1997. A new modular concept for operating table tops and components was introduced, compatible with all the operating tables developed later.
